1:1 Somatic Sessions

A space to slow down, listen to the body, and come back into relationship with yourself.

Making contact

There are moments in life when something inside us is asking to be heard, but the usual ways of listening no longer work. The mind keeps circling, trying to understand and make sense of, while the body quietly carries the deeper story.

These sessions are for sensitive, creative and curious people who feel their inner world moving beneath the surface. Together we slow down and tune in through somatic inquiry, noticing sensation, breath, nervous system signals and sometimes gentle movement, allowing the body’s intelligence to join the conversation and guide what wants to unfold.

What Somatic Therapy Means Here

In our sessions we may explore:

• sensations in the body
• nervous system states (fight / flight / freeze / shutdown)
• patterns of tension, collapse or activation
• emotional responses stored in the body
• how stress and trauma shape your responses
• how your system returns to safety and regulation

This may include orienting exercises, non-linear movement, somatic exploration and stream of consciousness, and active imagination.

Often it looks like conversation guided by the body’s signals rather than the intellect alone.

You are always in control of the pace.

What We Might Work With

People come to somatic sessions for many different reasons.

You may be navigating a specific challenge. Or a sense that something in your life or nervous system is asking for attention.

Common areas include:

• anxiety and chronic stress
• nervous system overwhelm or burnout
• trauma and past experiences held in the body
• phobias and fear responses
• illness or major life transitions
• grief and loss
• relationship patterns
• identity exploration
• neurodivergence and masking
• creative blocks or feeling disconnected from the body

These sessions offer a supportive space to explore what is present and discover what helps your system return to greater balance.

Somatic work recognises that our experiences live not only in our thoughts but in the nervous system and body.

Stress, trauma, grief, identity experiences and life transitions can all leave patterns in the body, shaping how we respond to the world and how safe or overwhelmed we feel.

What a Session Might Look Like

Somatic sessions are gentle, collaborative spaces where we slow down enough to notice what your body and nervous system are communicating.

Each session is 60 minutes and online so that you can feel comfortable and supported by your own surroundings and space. There is no pressure to perform, explain everything perfectly, or arrive with a clear plan.

We simply begin with where you are.

A session might move through something like this:

Arrival

We begin by settling into the space together.

You might share what has been present in your life recently, emotionally, mentally, or physically. We take a moment to notice how you are arriving in your body and nervous system.

Sometimes this includes a short grounding or orienting practice.

Somatic Inquiry

From here we begin to explore what your body may be communicating.

Through gentle questions and awareness, we might notice:

• sensations in the body
• emotional responses
• patterns of tension or ease
• nervous system states such as activation, overwhelm or shutdown
• what helps your system feel more supported

Rather than analysing everything immediately, we allow the body’s signals to guide the conversation.

Movement & Nervous System Support

Because the body often communicates through movement, we may sometimes include small, supportive movements.

This might look like:

• shifting posture
• noticing breath or rhythm
• gentle, non-habitual gestures
• allowing the body to move in subtle ways that support regulation

Movement is always optional and guided by your comfort.

Often the smallest shift in awareness can help the nervous system settle.

Integration

As the session comes to a close, we gently reflect on what has emerged.

You may leave with:

• greater clarity about what your nervous system is experiencing
• insight into patterns that shape your responses
• simple practices that support regulation between sessions

Benefits of Somatic Sessions

You may arrive feeling overwhelmed, stuck in repeating patterns, or disconnected from your body.

Somatic work includes the nervous system and body in the healing process, not just the thinking mind.

Over time you may experience:

• greater nervous system regulation
• reduced anxiety and overwhelm
• increased awareness of body signals and boundaries
• more capacity to respond rather than react
• relief from chronic tension or shutdown
• a deeper sense of connection with yourself

For many people the most meaningful shift is simply feeling more at home in their body again.

I’m Deanne Love, a queer somatic practitioner based in Coburg, Melbourne (Naarm) and currently completing a Master of Counselling.

I’ve been a movement teacher and hula hooper since 2008, guiding people to reconnect with their bodies through rhythm, sensation and embodied awareness. My work blends somatic inquiry, nervous system regulation and trauma-informed counselling.

Alongside professional training, my approach is deeply shaped by lived experience navigating chronic pain, cancer, queerness, trauma, neurodivergence and C-PTSD, experiences that transformed how I understand the body’s signals and the importance of compassionate, body-led support.
